Standard Fit vs. Comfort Fit
A standard fit ring has a flat interior — the inside of the band is a straight cylinder. A comfort fit ring has a domed interior — the inside of the band is slightly curved, so only the center of the band's inner surface contacts the finger. The edges of the band sit slightly above the finger surface.
Why Comfort Fit Feels Better
The domed interior of a comfort fit ring distributes the band's contact with the finger more evenly and reduces the sharp edge sensation at the band's inner edges. For people who wear rings daily, especially wider bands, comfort fit makes a noticeable difference in how comfortable the ring feels over long wear periods.
Comfort Fit and Sizing
Because a comfort fit ring's interior dome reduces the effective inner diameter slightly, comfort fit rings can feel slightly looser than the same nominal size in standard fit. When sizing for a comfort fit ring, use the same measurement methods as for standard fit — but if you are between sizes, go with your true size rather than sizing up, since the dome effect compensates for some of the tightness.
Does It Affect the Antler Inlay?
No — the antler inlay is set into the exterior of the ring, not the interior. The comfort fit dome is formed on the inside surface of the metal band only. The antler sits on the outside of the band, unaffected by the interior profile.
Which to Choose?
For rings 8mm and wider, comfort fit is generally recommended for daily wear. For narrower bands (4–6mm), standard fit is often sufficient. When in doubt, discuss with Jewelry by Johan when placing your order — our team can advise on interior profile options for specific ring styles.
