What Is a Trophy Antler Ring?
A trophy antler ring is a custom wedding band crafted using antler from a specific animal — typically one the wearer or their family harvested, or a significant shed found in the wild. Rather than using commercially sourced antler, the ring is made from material with a personal story: a first buck, a record harvest, or antler found on a property that has been in the family for generations.
Jewelry by Johan is one of the few jewelers in the country that accepts customer-supplied antler for custom ring crafting. Our Minneapolis workshop can transform your antler into a ring you will wear every day of your life.
Why It Matters to Hunters
For hunters, the harvest is more than a trophy. It represents patience, skill, stewardship of the land, and a connection to the outdoor life that defines who they are. A wedding ring made from a meaningful antler carries all of that — it is worn every day, not mounted on a wall. It is a piece of the hunt that goes with you everywhere.
What Species Work Best?
White-tailed deer antler is the most common and versatile — suitable for all ring sizes and widths. Mule deer antler is similar and works equally well. Elk antler is larger, denser, and ideal for wider band styles and ring sizes 11 and above. Moose antler has the broadest, flattest profile — perfect for rings with a wide, prominent inlay face.
How to Get Started
Contact Jewelry by Johan at their contact page with a description of your antler — species, approximate size, and condition. Include your ring size (this is critical — antler rings cannot be resized), your preferred metal, and your desired ring width. Our team will guide you through the rest of the process, including shipping instructions.
What to Expect from the Ring
Your finished ring will feature a section of your antler as the inlay, finished and sealed with Ring Armor protective coating. Free laser engraving up to 25 characters is included — most hunters engrave the season, a set of coordinates, or a personal message. Any unused antler is returned to you with the ring.
