Ring Armor Protective Coating
Every deer antler ring from Jewelry by Johan is finished with our Ring Armor protective sealant. This clear coating is applied to the antler inlay by our bench jewelers before your ring ships. Ring Armor protects the antler from moisture, everyday wear, and UV exposure — significantly extending the life and appearance of the inlay.
Daily Wear Guidelines
With Ring Armor applied, your antler ring is suitable for everyday wear. However, a few precautions will keep it looking its best for years:
- Remove before extended water exposure. While Ring Armor provides water resistance, we recommend removing your ring before swimming, bathing, or washing dishes for extended periods.
- Avoid harsh chemicals. Remove your ring before using cleaning products, solvents, or hand sanitizers with high alcohol content. These can degrade the protective coating over time.
- Avoid prolonged direct sunlight. UV exposure over long periods can fade the natural color of antler. Store your ring away from direct sunlight when not wearing it.
- Remove for heavy manual work. Take your ring off before activities that involve significant impact, abrasion, or exposure to grit — construction work, gardening, etc.
Cleaning Your Antler Ring
Clean your antler ring gently with a soft, damp cloth. Dry it immediately after. Do not soak the ring in water or use ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, or abrasive polishing compounds on the antler inlay. For the metal portions of the ring, a standard jewelry polishing cloth is appropriate.
Re-Coating
Over many years of heavy wear, the Ring Armor coating may show wear. Contact Jewelry by Johan about re-coating options if you notice the antler inlay becoming dry or dull.
Storage
Store your antler ring in the provided jewelry box or a soft pouch when not wearing it. Keep it away from other rings that might scratch the metal, and away from direct heat sources or extended sunlight.
